Galaktoboureko, Moussaka & Baklava = The most delicious food ever.

Hey hey... I had a great weekend! How about you guys? It was kind of cold and crappy on Saturday in Atlanta but I did manage to, sleep in,  get some laundry done, Day 1 of The Shred, a two hour tennis match and get prepared for Easter Sunday. No kids this weekend so as usual I took full advantage of my down time.  Food wise I had an ok weekend. Saturday was great and Sunday was a planned cheat day so I decided in advance to go ahead and have what I wanted at the Easter celebration and I did. Food coma ensued Sunday night.

I spent Easter with one of my best friends and her family. She is Greek and their Orthodox Easter fell on the same day as ours this year so I was lucky enough to attend their festivities. And oh lawd.... I have never seen so much good food in all of my life! She has had her sisters, Mom, Aunts and cousins at her house cooking for days. We arrived at 1:30 and there were already tables full of appetizers out, followed shortly by Greek sausage fresh off the grill. The lamb was on the spit since 6:00 a.m. just roasting away lovingly tended by a group of gorgeous Greek men. There were salads and spanikopita, stuffed grape leaves, feta, olives, grilled eggplant, moussaka and pastitsio, fresh pita on the grill and lamb with tsatziki sauce.  And the table of desserts... omg soooo good... baklava, rice pudding, galaktoboureko (custard in phyllo with a cinnamon syrup), Black Forest torte form Carnegie deli and other assorted goodies her family brought or made for the occasion. It was heaven.

They even put on 2 separate egg hunts... one for the littles and one for the big kids. Top it all off with pitchers of home made mojitos and stick a fork in me like the lamb... I was D.O.N.E. I went home last night and collapsed... literally. But... I don't think I overdid any one thing. I had a little of everything I wanted... ok maybe a lot of the moussaka, but I think I handled it pretty well and I am back on plan today. This is what I  need to work on. Planning for indulgences without going completely off track. It would be so easy for me to say today "well I blew it yesterday so..." Anyway, no regrets and ready for a great week!

Just a few more shots from the party yesterday!

How was your Easter?
