Thursty Thursday: The Classic Bloody Mary

Thursday, April 2, 2015

As you may or may not know I am a huge fan of day drinking. It's fun, it usually happens outside on a deck or a porch and it allows me to be the old lady that I truly am at heart and get home early to Netflix and my couch. I am also a huge fan of brunch and brunch type drinks so today I thought I would explore that a lil bit and see what I could find in the realm of day/brunch drinking heaven. Easter is this Sunday and it is pretty much the biggest brunch day of the year for some so drink up!

Enter my new favorite jam, the Bloody Mary. I know, it's the oldest drink ever known to man but I, in my younger days was not a fan of tomato juice so sadly I have been missing out for a very long time. I am however,  a huge fan of drinks that come with food already in them which is apparently some sort of trend when it comes to making the ultimate Bloody Mary. How did I never realize this until now?

Take for example The Nook in Atlanta, known for the best bloody in town or so it seems as they call it The Bloody Best. It comes complete with tater tots, steak and a beef straw. Yes please, I'll take two and call it lunch.

How about Bloody Mary's in meat shot glasses with cheese sticks for garnish? How gosh darn impressed would you be if you came to my house and I served this to you? It's an edible shot glass people!!! Here's the recipe if you wanna get crazy. Oh yeah and they used bacon vodka for the actual drink part... cause you need more meat flavor with your meat shot glass.

But for today let's just stick with the classic recipe. Tried and true it will never fail.

  • Celery salt
  • 1 Lemon wedge
  • 1 Lime wedge
  • 2 oz Premium Vodka
  • 4 oz Tomato juice
  • 2 dashes Tabasco Sauce
  • 2 tsp Prepared horseradish
  • 2 dashes Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 pinch Celery salt
  • 1 pinch Ground black pepper
  • 1 pinch Smoked paprika

  • Pour some celery salt onto a small plate. Rub the juicy side of the lemon or lime wedge along the lip of a pint glass. Roll the outer edge of the glass in celery salt until fully coated. Fill with ice and set aside. Squeeze the lemon and lime wedges into a shaker and drop them in. Add the remaining ingredients and fill with ice. Shake gently and strain into the prepared glass. Garnish with a celery stalk and a lime wedge.

Or if you want to get crazy you could garnish with oh say... a pizza.

    Happy Brunching.
