Well... That Was Fun

Wednesday, December 3, 2014

So it seems that I took an unintentional blogging break and I did not hate it. I did miss it and all of you terribly but I needed to just take the holiday week and be completely present with my family. My brother and his wife and two boys came down from Michigan for the entire week and we had a wonderful visit. If you follow me on IG then you know we were all over town being touristy, eating out and doing fun stuff. We were at home a good bit too just hanging out and enjoying each other. It was glorious and exactly what I needed.

It's funny, something I have noticed over the last 5 years or so since the demise of my marriage and the onset of a rather complicated life, when I am with my family for the annual visit I can get out of my own head. I can disconnect completely from all of the things that are normally huge stressors for me. I mean they are still in the back of my mind but I can push them so far back that I actually feel free of them for that period of time. It's amazing to me... a lot of people pay a lot of money for xanax, therapy, acupuncture... how lucky am I to have family ties that have that affect on me???

Unfortunately these trips and visits end and I did spend this past weekend feeling a bit funky in my empty house that had just been full to the gills with kids, adults, dogs, food, drink, stuff and laughter. The end part does stink but really it makes me just appreciate that much more how much I adore my family. My brother... I have to brag a little here... he is just the best big bro ever. He fixed a whole bunch of stuff around my house for me. He just did it... we went to Home Depot and Lowe's and he just bought everything and took care of it. These are the little things that I hem and haw over because... spending money. It was so nice to have another adult just take charge and get things done. I didn't have to decide, it was just done. I miss that part of having a man around. Not that my ex was anything like my brother... she said as she choked a little on her coffee.

In other news.... job searching is going. I cannot believe I have been out of work for almost a month. Would you believe it has taken me that amount of time to get all the paperwork in order for severance, unemployment insurance, medical, and the dreaded taking some money out of reserves to live on. Ugh. All I can say about that is at least I have some. It won't last long at all but I can stretch it. I had my living "high on the hog" week courtesy of my parents and my brother for Thanksgiving so I am ready to get to the business of being the frugal mamma. What really blows is that I am not sure how much hiring goes on during the holidays, seems a little slow. Fingers crossed something great will come along! Soon please....

So lets get to a lil photo dump from the holiday week... yes I know it's already Wednesday of the following week. But I vow to get back in the swing of things here and now. Somehow when I go away I have these weird spikes in blog traffic, like 1700 page views on Sunday with Israel being the leading source of traffic. WTF. And Buzzfeed... can anyone explain this to me? I need to learn more about the power of Google Analytics. Funny thing... I was out and about yesterday at a local business I have plugged on the blog before and one of the owners asked me about my blog and thanked me for linking back. Apparently I showed up on their Google Analytics as a leading referral. How funny is that?

Now some pics... enjoy....

We ate some really amazing stuff... I don't regret it but I feel like I am pushing max density over here. Back to the grind now but oh... the foods, all the foods....

And more random happenings from the coke museum to T-Day dinner we had a blast....

Happy Humpday folks... missed ya faces!

  1. I'm so glad your visit with your family recharged you. It's nice to be able to depend on people.

  2. Missed you girl!!! So happy that the visit with your family filled you with so much joy and all that food you had looked amazing!!

  3. sometimes you just need a break, glad you enjoyed it!
    and oh that food! yummmm.

  4. Good thing you had some money saved. Trust me - I know how that feels! Just being off work for a week in BETWEEN jobs is stressful! It's hard out there, but you'll find something!!! :)

  5. I wish my family had that effect on me. They are super helpful but part of my still feels like they wish I'd never gotten divorced. Those heart shaped waffles are adorable, did you make them?
