Another year older...

This is not going to be my traditional weekending post because honestly I was a bad blogger this weekend. I put my phone down and just had a bit of a technology minimal weekend. As in I didn't really take pictures of anything at all. Or do much of anything at all for that matter. It was very typical, Friday night tattoos, Saturday cheer leading and football, Sunday tennis.

But never mind all of that because today is my birthday!!! And unfortunately I am working all day and not doing anything remotely fun that I know of because alas, it is a Monday. I did get a few sweet surprises over the weekend, a dozen roses, some wine, cards in the mail... one even had $$$ in it, thanks Mom & Dad.

Friday night I had an appointment to get some new birthday ink and that is what I did. It was a little different too, the first time I have ever gone by myself which seems funny but I have always gone with a friend... and that one time with my Mom. I felt all grown up walking into the tattoo shop by myself hahaha. But they actually remember me now as I have been several times and seen a few different artists. I had someone new this time, a female artist and she did a beautiful job. I wanted something kind of old school looking so I chose a swallow and a rose. The swallow is a very traditional old school tattoo most often seen on sailors. They would get a swallow tattoo at the beginning of a journey and then another upon return. It is said that a swallow always returns home to nest so it was thought to insure the safe return of the sailor. Should the sailor meet an unfortunate end at sea legend has it that the swallow would carry the sailor's soul to heaven. The swallow also represents love, care and affection towards family and friends, showing the loyalty of the person always returning to them. The bird also represents freedom and hope. The rose is kind of just something I have always liked. It's very vintage and traditional. It'a also my great grandmother's name, my middle name and my oldest daughter's middle name.

I couldn't commit to color so I opted for a black and white and gray combo and I love the way it came out.

Happy Monday to all!
